Once Upon a Time…

a-to-z-letters-once Upon a Time…

there was a Mommy who was EXHAUSTED.  Like, hadn’t had a full night of sleep in nearly 17 months, tired.  A Mommy who wandered through her day, sipping coffee in the morning and iced tea in the afternoon, all the while hoping for a magical burst of energy and enthusiasm that would result in her house finally being clean.

sleepy-momHow does she go on?  How does she keep moving?  She’s just not really sure.  But keep moving forward she does.  For she knows that having little arms thrown across your face at 3am after you take the baby to bed with you because you’re just toooo tired to sit upright in a chair and rock him back to sleep, just doesn’t last forever.  The mornings together, where the last of the snuggles are reserved for her before the Little Man crawls across the bed demanding Daddy GET UP and take him upstairs, will soon be a thing of the past.  And she knows that too soon he will venture into the world, exploring it just as he does everything he encounters, and she won’t be able to hold him and keep him safely in her arms.

But it sure would be nice to sleep 8 hours in a row!

When did your children start sleeping through the night?

  1. I'm not a mom but I know what you mean about staying up most of the night! I work A LOT and although I work during the day, I usually work at night at home until about 2:00 a.m. Sometimes I swear I feel drunk!

At least yours will be worth it with kids that love you! :-)

  2. I am feeling your pain....I wish I could get some sleep, although right now my kids are older. My lack of sleep is due to me not getting any me time until they are in bed, which typically means well after 10pm. :(

I enjoyed this post! Hope you are sleeping well. It's 2:30 am here...ugh

  3. I went to bed at 7:45 last night. Made kids put themselves to bed. I totally get this!

  4. I have 1 6 year old and 2-2year olds. Most nights are just fine...but we do have a few of those where we're all snuggling in the bed together. It will pass. It always does. Eventually...

  8. Enjoyed your post...and I smiled as I remembered those days of no sleep. Now I'm retired and I take naps...yes, naps in the middle of the day!!! Joy! I get woken up in the night by the spouse running to the bathroom.

I'm your newest follower and a fellow AtoZ blogger. I'd also do the Tuesday link thing, but I don't think I ever set up a facebook page for my blog. I'll put that on my todo list.

  9. Thank God those days are long gone for me. I never learned how to sleep when my baby was sleeping in the daytime.

  10. Nice post--especially being a mom of 5 and having a baby currently. They all had different sleeping patterns--the #5 only slept through the night for two nights in a row now (since we began babyfood : ) But #1 and #4 slept through the night at 2 weeks old. #2,3, and 5 have had the normal waking once or twice each night until #2 15 months, #3 6 months, and #5 4 months (but not sure if it will remain that way).

  11. Enjoyed your post.
Mine are way past that at this point, I've made it to the pre teen and teen years. I guess I would say treasure every moment, even the sleepless ones because in a blink they are grown up.

  12. Been there! My daughter started sleeping through the night at 17 months. It's only afterwards that you realize that you are a superhero, so I'm telling you now...you are a superhero! :)
